spelling Ebeling RlA2/p279 Egime(a) degi-me(a) RlA2/p280 Egubidugga ( de-gu 3gu...) is his convention for similar sounding signs: signx1a signx1b and for alternative signs: signx1(2) ******************************************************* [II]( deme(e-me)-te)...does this mean sometimes written deme-te, sometimes de-me-te? ( den-ama3-di-imdim2)...does this mean sometimes written den-ama3-di-im, sometimes den-ama3-dim2? ( den-a-ma-aš2amaš)...does this mean sometimes written den-a-ma-aš2, sometimes den-amaš? do these transliterations show variations? ******************************************************* [III]what about: ( dninegi-la2) my guess is, the second part of NIN ( TUG2) was not properly legible so it could easily be TUG2 or ŠE3 / or vs / NIN vs EGI2* (*which consists of MUNUS and ŠE3 , another reading of ŠE3 is EGI, therefore dninegi-la2******************************************************* [IV]for now i´m putting the "signs in brackets" and the "superscripted signs" in brackets in the "cuneiform" column superscripted signs example: ( den-bu-du 3- du-dudu 3)---> ( ) = den-bu-du 3-du 3(du-du)

The whole time i ignored entries a la: Godname X. see Godname Y I guess that was an error. Will fix that when i´m done with E. Meanwhile, i collect some here.
But! since there is no information apart from "term x" see "term y" i often can´t figure out right away if "term x" is even a divinity...please keep that in mind
edit: Decided not to collect them since they are mentioned somewhere else in RlA.

The Nergal problem. ETCSL sign list has PIRIG.UNUG.GAL, but in RlA9, PIRIG is not even mentioned. ...

Hello Sheshki - here is an answer I would give to this often problematic spellings of Nergal's name: As far as the spelling of Nergal's name, I think the Reallexikon has it right. See volume 9, N, came out in 1998 and is fairly recent. This history of the interpretation of Nergal's name is long and difficult, but by 1998, following the debates about the topic by Lambert and Steinkeller, the history of the name was better understood. Originally his name was KIŠ.UNUG.GAL - KIŠ means bull, Nergal was the bull of the netherworld. There are versions of his name which use the emesal dialect spelling umun-urugal2 .. since emesal umun is emegir en 'lord', the name in the main emegir dialect is (e)n-eri-gal or (e)n-urugal2. This UNUG.GAL or urugal2 component means 'big city' which is a reference to the netherworld. Originally he was 'the bull of the netherworld' according to his name. So at some point, the KIŠ 'bull' element of the name dropped off; then the en seems to have switch to ne for some reason no one knows. Then you are left with a name that sounds like nergal (ne-eri-gal). That is the understanding according to Katz more or less. As for PIRIG.UNU.GAL in the ETCSL list, I have to assume they are using an older or less developed understanding of the name. The only instance of PIRIG.UNU.GAL I can find is mentioned in Katz' discussion, where she states that this spelling occurs once in a text from Nuzi, or some place like this, where the scribes were not as skilled and probably made a mistake with the name. Both KIŠ (bull) and PIRIG (Lion/dog) are animal head signs and can be easy to confuse or mixed up, this may be why they wrote PIRIG. I think ETCSL are referring to Borger here, so it may have been a mistake or outdated understading of Borger's. I would go with RlA here.

Excellent :] yes, N is a big undertaking .. there are many Mesopotamian divinities whose names begin with Nin- of course, some are male, some are female. The phenomena of the Nin- deities, which prompts some scholars to speculate that there were numerous female deities who were later reinterpreted as male deities (can't really be proven). The late Prof. Frayne once gave me, during my undergrad days, the task of proofing his bibliographical notes for his (never published) book on gods and goddesses. Was quite a task when I came to the N section hm.

As you may have noticed all the signs in the godname tables have disappeared. This is due to a policy change proboards did. They basically won´t allow pictures anymore that come from pages that don´t have https. This means i have to find a https source where i can store the pictures (done) and then i have to change all the fucking links. This will take forever.
