I just got into the topic of Sumerian religion. I was drawn to it by my faith in the faith of Abraham. I am still apprehensive about everything. I am curious if anyone else has started this path in the same way and could share their beliefs and/or experiences.
Thanks

Welcome Mikhael: None to be apprehensive about, at least so far as particpating at enenuru goes. As for the subject of Sumerian religion I think you could say that here we look at the same material though from a different perspective maybe; at the forum you may find many informations that would be valuable for such an endevor - because, nothing like this would be possible without the academic achievements which have brought Sumerian culture back to concious consideration. You should stick around and read about obscure things sometimes discussed. For a group that attempts to follow the Sumerians in a religious manner, I might refer you also to the below url, a board at which I spent some time. As they are religious there, if you combine their approach with the academic focus at enenuru, you would probably be best off groups.yahoo.com/group/TabletofDestiny/P.S. email or msg me directly for reading/study tips ;]

Hi Mikhael.
I'm not a Sumerian recon, so I can't offer much of that. However, the source Us4 provided and through here you may find what you need to start reconstructing the religion as best as possible.

Mikhael,
I got into Sumerian/Mesopotamian polytheism via doing research as a result of my issues with Judaism as I was considering conversion. But the more I learned, the more I was drawn to Mesopotamian (mainly Sumerian & Syrian) deities and their myths. It invigorates me as I delve deeper into my studies and growing spirituality.

i think that from 2008 to now, you probably are not new to sumerian religion anymore, but i find this post to be interesting because im new to sumerian religion today. and im full of doubts about it, im trying to bring sumerian religion to my country, but its going to be a long road of commitment and hard work to make it. the resources shared here are going to be usefull for me, and my understanding of this path that is new to me.

I have a limited time to consider all the points you've touched with your posts on this board - probably others will also involve though the discussions are rare recently. Well if you've really brought some of the Sumerian traditions to yourself (I think it's not possible to reconstruct the whole of them) - I mean bringing it in your heart to say it in Bronze Age terms, you should have become a transmitter of its energies to your environment anyway. For example if assume that you've made a contact with your personal deity (which is fundamental in the Mesopotamian tradition in general), so you will be somehow guided along your way and find what is necessary to do as if by itself. What do you mean by bringing it to your country? Preaching to others, establishing an official temple, performing rituals therein, and all these formal things any institutionalized cult does?

Preaching to others, establishing an official temple, performing rituals therein, and all these formal things any institutionalized cult does? not exactly like that, but yes, part of it would be establishing a temple, i dont know if i would call it official, since in sumerian times temples in uruk and nippur could be different, and yet they would be "oficial" in their own terms... going beyond that, i think of a temple, as a place were people could form a community in person, to expand on their knowledge and worship their gods as a group, not only as a single believer... about personal deity i have many questions about how to make contact properly with mine... i had certain experiences that turned me into this path, that would point to certain possibilities, but im not sure if that would really be my personal deity or just a goddess responding to my pleading after i asked for forgivness because of a mistake i made. is there a ritual of some sort to clarify that? what ive seen i think, could not be my personal deity, or im either the best or the worst luck, deppending how you see it.
