Hello!
Which artists do you know whose lyrics circle about Mesopotomia? Do you know anyone inspired by the Epic of Gilgamesh?
Check Melechesh if you are interested in.

Well I think you've come to the right place with that question ;] lots of people around here like Mesopotamian metal. I know there are alot of posts on this thread, but if you look through the Popular References Thread this is where people have been leaving alot of relevent bands etc.

Also, we have classics inspired by Mesopotamian history (or better, 19th century s perceptions) as Rossini s Semiramide and Verdi s Nabucco.

music that should be definitelymentioned here is Echos from Ugarit www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeP_AS0DqaUthis piece is being used nowadays in charity concerts for Syrian War victims. it is based on decades of deciphering cuneiform tablets of the oldest known music notation, these texts describe the music used as the one of Mesopotamia. This rendering is how it could sound in modern tempered tuning of today, at the time of origin it was possibly played with different string tunings and may have sounded different. There are melodies now older than this one, but this is likely the one that has received most attention sofar.

Naturally I think my own blues song is the best : soundcloud.com/george-stokoe/up-jumped-nisaba-blues-no2-gtr-vclSomewhat off-topic for this forum, but Faustian self-mythologising in the blues goes back to Robert Johnson, and before him, Peetie Wheatstraw. So I titled the song to deliberately evoke the blues lyric "up jumped the Devil", except instead of the Devil I sing about a winged goddess at the start of History in Sumer. But sometimes the Switch is better than the Bait ;-) George
