Mesopotamia: Inventing our World
Hey enenuru - wanted to tell you about the very very odd new fashion in Toronto this summer. All of the sudden, Sumerian culture has, believe it or not, come into fashion it seems and the city is abuzz with talk of ancient times in Mesopotamia - which I find just a little surreal at the moment 0_0
This is entirely due to the one of the cultural powerhouses of the area, the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), and it hosting a large loan of Sumerian artifacts from the British Museum this summer. The exhibition is set to stay here until January.
My sometime instructor Clemens Reichel is overseeing the loan of choice artifacts and has arranged for some pieces to be sent from Pennsylvania as well, such as the "ram in the thicket." So needless to say I am VERY excited and will surely visit soon to take photos for the board etc.
Whats realllyyy amazing is how much coverage this thing is getting - there are posters and banners all over town enticing people to come and see the artifacts from the dawn of civilization. Further, all the major news papers have run coverage like this:

Further, I was at a friends watching tv (I dont have tv myself) and was amazed to see a commercial about the Sumerian exhibit on the ROM playing on a local channel - it was like this youtube video:

The official site for the exhibit is here:

Will post more as I learn more or have pictures available
