Hey everyone, I've been working on an online course that aims to teach Sumerian to people with no linguistic background and give them an introduction to the language and culture of ancient Sumer. So far, I've been going off of the wikibook to build the course and I think I've been doing well. If you can, please check out my course and tell me what you think about it. I appreciate any suggestions! www.memrise.com/course/682611/introductory-sumerian/Thanks!

mesopotamiankaraite:
I have looked over the website that you ask about an it may indeed be helpful. This website is basically an online flashcard resource, so like writing out lists of vocabulary on paper cards an going over and over these cards in order to memorize words as they did in the old days, and of course, still do. Personally, I like using digital format flash cards as you don't lose them or get them out of order and so forth.
So yes, I do suggest using the site you found and I know the resources they have used to make these flashcards, for example, Halloran's website is a legitimate place to obtain Sumerian vocabulary. There are some limitations to your site, for example, in the Sumerian grammar lesson, they can help you to memorize what an "ergative" and a "dative" look like in Sumerian, but they do not and cannot explain to you what these things are by using flashcards. Therefore, this site is a tool, but in the long run, you will need many more tools.
I encourage you to e-mail me at bill.mcgrath@mail.utoronto.ca and I would be able to provide you with more tools and advice on learning Sumerian. It may take many years to learn Sumerian, particularly if you have other work to do i.e. school etc. but getting a head start is a good idea.
Bill
