Hi all, This is a long shot but I had an email a while ago from Birkbeck College in London. It said the course I'm signed up for in January doesn't have enough students, and will be cancelled if not enough sign up over Christmas: www.bbk.ac.uk/study/2015/short-courses/modules/SSHC/SSHC203H4/It's not cheap, and you'll need to have done Birkbeck's Introduction to Akkadian course (or similar study) already as an entry requirement. But it looks to cover some really interesting religious material, and if it's like Intro to Akkadian the quality of the teaching and printed study material will be fantastic. Unfortunately, registration closes on Monday! Anyway, it's a long shot but I thought there might be some other former Birkbeck Akkadian students on the board, or maybe people who've taught themselves with Huehnerguard's Grammar etc. who might be interested. Cheers, George

Oh hi George, good to hear from you! Well, its great you finding the chance to talk some Assyriology in house there. Its unfortunate to hear of the issues Birkbeck is having with enrolling a sufficient number of students, but really, this is a problem for Assyriology everywhere in the world. Typically, introductory classes have a "reasonable" number (perhaps between 6-12), but intermediate and above drop down to between 1-6 students. I'm afraid it is a very long shot asking here or anywhere for that matter, I would join up if I had the option. But I'm enrolled in classes in Canada at the moment Well, if the class is cancelled, you should try talking to the professor, it's often possible to set up a 'directed reading course' or something like this, where you do the work and meet with the professor in their office once a week and still get the credit. Best regards, Bill

Hi Bill, Thanks anyway! I should know tomorrow if the course is still going. Unfortunately, I don't think a directed reading course will be an option for me. Birkbeck run evening classes, and I think for subjects like Akkadian they have to get in outside expertise from Cambridge Uni. If it doesn't run, I'll probably just use the fee refund and sign up instead for their next Sumerian course. :-) Best regards, George
