sheshki - I just noticed it's your birthday today - many happy returns! I would say it in cuneiform but I'm not quite there yet...
It may be written in one of the posts above but they could say anything!
So here it is in Sanskrit:
जन्मदिनस्य हार्दिकशुभेच्छाः

Happy Birthday sheshki!
felicem natalem! and χρόνια πολλά!
Bet yaldakh breekah!
(I'm just showing off... Got it from the internet... Am not at home and can't just make it up right now... but it's the intention that counts)
Edit: Damned, I just made you a female... ;D

SHESHKI[/size]!! ;D Ha-dû a-lā-du UTU : written with no particularly great finesse or grammatical responsibility, nonetheless something like an attempt to say `happy birthday` in Akkadian. I`m sure you`ll pass another year knowing the advantages of youth that very young people never know hm.

Unsurpassed in his youthfulness, sheshki, pre-eminent among the black-headed people, when you take your seat on the great august dais your awesomeness covers heaven and earth to their uttermost limits!
šaghul-ugu-ud brother!

The "Wedge" Cake Post
____________ So, I determined to bake a cake for Frank`s birthday, and as it won`t make it to Leipzig on time, or in one piece or fresh for that matter, I will do the next best thing and make a cake post. To actually make a cake for me took some doing - I started by shopping around 1:00 pm, and then getting home I realized I don`t actually own a blender! I then thought about some solution, got a little sidetracked writing enenuru related stuff, borrowed a blender from my brother somewhere around 8 pm and finally - cake is finished 10:30 PM - fortunately it`s still Frank`s birthday (at least going by my timezone . Well, here we go: a la diš? .... .... oder .... .... a la aš? NICE! I think so. I am calling it "Wedge Cake". Originally, I thought of writing Happy Birthday in cuneform, but as I was doing the decorating with a regular fork and knife this turned out to be to difficult. I then thought of writing "Sheshki" ... than I simplified this to the cuneiform sign AN (dingir). After a moment of intense struggle, during which the icing was clearly not forming anything at all, I confined myself to furiously forking out a wedge sign. I couldn`t decide if you would prefer aš or diš Frank, so, I included both possibilities above hm. Whew tired... Baking takes so much work 0_0

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMARSIN!! Ha-dû a-lā-du UTU : This is still my best Akkadian "happy birthday" at the moment so I have to go with what I've got LOL. Here's hoping you have another contented year with cuneiform and tablets and all that Sumerological stuff

Thanks everyone for the good wishes! Actually, though, I don't know why it says this is my birthday (though I guess I obviously entered that information)-- it was about 2 months ago in November. So I'll happily take these all as belated wishes and look forward to another year of ANE studies and exploration with everyone here!

Haha, thanks guys. My birthday was fairly eventful. It started with me having to hide behind shower curtains from my girlfriend's grandmother at 5 AM in the morning.
Sadly no porn or cigs has been obtained yet as I don't have a valid form of photo-ID. I plan to work towards this end soon enough.

TRACY!!!!! : ;D Ha-dû a-lā-du UTU: or something like HAPPY BIRTHDAY anyway - Thanks for being a great facebook contact and I've always found your taste in hats and shirts thrilling. I forgot to get back to you about 'Altorientalische Forschungen' but I'm pretty sure I will and suspect this is the earlier working name for the AfO periodical (Archiv Fur Orientforschung) which is from Vienna. Maybe not. Will have to ask if Drew has got back to you yet *pokes Drew*.

Thanks Bill! That's fantastic, certainly my favourite birthday present! HAPPY BIRTHDAY in Sumerian - now that is real thought and effort! Yeah he did get back to me, but apparently facebook chewed up and swallowed his lengthier message, so he is going to try again at another convenient point. Not sure about the periodical I must admit.
