The Erra Myth as the Past and Post Catastrophe: An Interpretation in regard to Narrative and the Political Ideology of Nabu-apla-idinaHey folks! So this is the final paper I wrote for the Archaeology of the Ancient Near East seminar I took this semester. It's a 28 page paper outlining my argument for the dating of the Babylonian Epic of Erra, and my own interpretation of Erra's ideological utility to the reign of Nabu-apla-idina. It also explores the poem's relation to conception of the cosmos evident in Babylonian mythology. It was meant for an anthropology course, and my professor had given me the go-ahead to write this up as an explanation of my personal research over the last year after I had explained the outline of my theory. I received a high grade for the paper, although I think he was a little disappointed it wasn't anthropologically oriented enough, but from the opposite angle, I'd love the thoughts of some of this board's budding assyriologists. I hope to edit this over the next year in order to publish it in some form or another, because to my knowledge the conclusion I arrived at has not been proposed by any researchers of the Epic. Although I am of course hindered by being as yet illiterate in Akkadian. Enjoy! docs.google.com/document/d/1Ccw_gOI_trXLLgqEdtsvgiZrfRasS_NLP-9JhfPqf8s/edit?hl=en&authkey=CJ6Fi7II#

Hey man - This is excellent! Very pleased to see another paper up on this new sub-section of enenuru. Your sustained focus on the Epic of Erra is a great example of what I like about the people around here - that odd sort of unpractical obsession which ends up producing interesting things hm. I will review it in full in the coming week or two and get back to you with some feedback. Thanks very much for contributing!

Pretty clear and well structured paper, I'd say from an anthropological point of view that maintaining social order is what drives all cultures in all historical periods, hence the emphasis placed on myth and ritual that focuses on returning to such order.
