Every now and gain I hear sparse mentions of Asherah (Caananite, Hebrew goddess) in Sumerian lore. The theory is that Amurru is the equilivent t El & Asratum to Asherah. I have also heard claims that she is the consort of An, or older than Inanna, historically. Some people seem to conflate alot of titles, ephitets, and worship of Inanna, it seems, to Asherah. I sincerly doubt this and I *really* doubt that the two are the same goddess. I think people are just confusing some things. (Other than "Queen of Heaven" as a title.) Oh yeah, for those who don't have alot of knowledge of Asherah, in the Hebrew tradition she is Yahweh's consort, his second is Anath. (Another goddess that I doubt is Asherah but people often conflate Asherah with.)

Sumerian, I don't think so. My understanding is that it is the feminine form of Assur the god of Assyria. Anath seems clearly to be related to Anat, who is again not Sumerian.
The Assyrians at least connected Assur with Anshar. Anshar and Kishar were ancestors of An and Ki. I think that I heard that there is a connection between Kishar and the city of Kish, but don't quote me because I am unsure here. Anshar and Kishar are not really entities with any personality, but rather an answer to what came first the chicken or the egg.

See, this is exactly what i was thinking. Asherah and Anath to my knowledge come over from the Caananite side of things.

Anshar is Sumerian, but Asherah probably has little to do with Sumer her self. Honestly I know less about her than I probably should given how often it comes up.
