At last, about authenticity: could we say that the Babylonian "Enuma Elish" is inauthentic in relation to the original Sumerian cosmology? To what a conclusion could arrive a scholar after one thousand years if, for example, s/he has at his/her disposal ONLY these texts survived: "Enki and the World Order", "Enuma Elish", Simon's "Necronomicon", and "Maskim Hul" by Michael Ford? Unfortunately, that's how the human history works

Recently I read some bad fiction featured Sumerian deities: 1. Sherylyn Kenyon s Devil May Cry (Nanna, Anzakar (Dream god, here he is presented as Nanna s twin brother, and they are half-humans) and galla-demons in contemporary Las Vegas. Nanna falls in love with Artemis s daughter, fights galla and so on. 2. Eitan s Chamberlain Ikkibu and the Water Clock of Babylon. The contemporary young man is captured to Hammurabi s period Babylon by Nanna s vizier and involved in struggle between gods. 3. Irina s Zacharchenko s Seven Gates. Sumerian gods Enlil, Enki, Inanna and others lives in contemporary Ukraine in human bodies. These books are available for free in I-net but for me all three authors shows their bad knowledge and bad taste in Mesopotamian culture. These books are free from Sitchinism - this is only good thing I could say about them.

For a poor knowledge I have no right to judge but the annoying thing for me is the bad taste combined with an insolent commercialism.

As a fan of old school black metal, I recoil in terror. As a philologist, I recoil in terror as well - but alas, what am I doing in this thread anyways?!

As a fan of both the old and the new school of the Black Metal I cannot omit the case to notify here the concert of the Israel band Melechesh I attended at in the night before the last night. Such an event is comparatively rare where I live. Melechesh describe their music as "Mesopotamian Black Metal" and first I was a bit sceptical about it being at the concert mainly because of the next band to play - Samael, so it was my first time listening to Melechesh. The band showed an original style with specific oriental elements and particular rhythm. The not good sound conditions of the hall the concert took place were compensated by a very strong presence and atmosphere on the part of Melechesh. Especially fascinating was the presence of the front-man Ashmedi who was like a living Babylonian for the audience. There was an after-party in a club after the concert where I met Ashmedi again open to contact with his fans but I was not in a proper mood to communicate in English - a friend of mine did it and later he shared with me he found Ashmedi as "occultly competent", but as far as the Black Metal is concerned I often prefer not to contact personally its players and performers lest I spoil my fascination of them. That's why I rarely read their lyrics as well and satisfy with what has reached my ears only

Interesting merchandise for sure I like the third shirt with the ring post the best, you don't often see anyone trying to popularize that - however like all that stuff it's still connected with Inanna. Are there really more feminists than nerds out there? 0_0

Nice commercial Sheshki Are you guys in the midst of writing for next album or most songs written? I wonder if I can order a special addition version from Canada hm. The combination of paintings and seal imagery is quite striking - the beauty Balage has caught in his painting I think is quite representative of what it would have looked like, although of course most of Sumer was not beautiful temple or palace architecture - still, the relatively crude and often abstract seal images seem like a contrast over these paintings. The primary purpose of seal imagery was not art of course but to convey messages of a sort, identifiers of officials doing the sealing mostly. The challenge I suppose is in recognizing the significance of the symbolism used for that purpose. So I'm learning alot about Mesopotamian iconography this year, will have to update the notes on 491 class today - can't go wrong with "see the tablet box of cedar" intro, words the ancients themselves used to induce a sense of time honored lore. Nice student video Muska We have a selection of student videos book marked here somewhere. In any case, in this attempt I think they succeeded in getting the script mostly right (although English version of that are somewhat easy to come by hehe)

CD design looks fantastic Sheshki! Of course the Gudea Vase has awesome visuals which still engage the imagination of the modern viewer as well - my favorite feature is probably the pottery designs on the cd itself , really reminds my or Eridu ware with the frequent net patterning but I think it is from those more colorful example from that pottery your fond of - now the place name eludes me. Speaking of interesting Sumerian art, the U of Pennsylvania has put up a new website which features some Sumerian art items that have rarely been published if at all - take for example this goat head from ED Fara - I'd never seen it before! www.penn.museum/collections/object.php?irn=338241from search www.penn.museum/collections/search.php?term=sumerian&submit_term=Submit&images=yes

Tigris and Euphrates Board Game: In the enenuru tradition of reporting any or all public reference to Mesopotamia... I was in the mall other day browsing through a games store and to my great surprise, spotted a Mesopotamian themed board game titled "Tigris and Euphrates". Seemed to be something like risk except you are the Assyrians and/or Babylonians I'm not sure. The art seemed fairly hit and miss but they got some cultural elements right with plenty of cuneiform signs on the box. It was a bit more then I wanted to spend so I didn't buy it this time. More information about the game is availble at wiki

Enenurians, to celebrate 1000 "like´s" on FB for our Herbst9 page i created a poster that we offer for free. Only thing one has to do is getting it printed (i just ordered two copies from an online printshop for some 14 euros), so if anyone of you want a copy as well just send an e-mail with the subject "poster" to ash@herbst9.de and i send you the download link. The poster is 60x40 cm, file format is .tif And thats how it looks like.
