Zimbir (or Sippar) was an ancient Mesopotamian city-state located 60 km north of Babylon. Zimbir was a twin city that was split in half by the Euphrates river. The city on the east side of the Euphrates river was referred to as Zimbir-Yahrurum (modern Tell Abu Habbah) the sister city on the West side of the Euphrates was referred to as Zimbir-Amnanum (modern Tell ed-Der). In modern times the site is located in Iraq's Babil Governorate.
The site at Zimbir was first occupied during the Uruk period but urbanization did not begin until the Early Dynastic Period. The site remained occupied until Parthian times. The main mound at Tell Abu Habba, measures over 1 square kilometer.
The patron deity at Zimbir was Utu (Akkadian Šamaš) the god of the sun and justice. The temple at Zimbir was the é-babbara ("The Shining House") and the é-nunana ("House of the Prince of Heaven"). The chief deity of the sister city Sippar-Amnanum was Annunitum.

Zimbir in the Temple Hymns
"O Zimbir, dais upon which Utu sits daily, E-nun-ana (House of the prince of heaven), star of heaven, crown given birth by Ningal, house of Utu, your prince, the …… of the universe, fills heaven and earth. When the lord sleeps, the people sleep; when he rises, the people rise. The bull …… and the people prostrate themselves. Before Utu the herds pasture ……. The black-headed have bathed before him, the Land has …… before him. He measures out the divine powers -- your shrine is a flood.
Pronouncing judgment where the sun rises, mighty sunlight, wearing a beard, tying on the suḫ crown at night, Utu, the sovereign of E-babbar (Shining house), has erected a house in your precinct, O house Zimbir, and taken his seat upon your dais.
14 lines: the house of Utu in Zimbir."
