Hello enenuru - I am linking below my small assignment on the state of warfare in early Mesopotamia and Syria. This was an assignment I was given to do in my Syrian Archaeology course, it was to be small 12 pages in scope. The professor intended us (the students in the class) to examine the archaeological and textual data and make an argument on whether 4th and 3rd millennium (3500-2500) Syrio-Mesopotamia engaged in real warfare. In my assignment, I argue that the evidence is quite ambiguous before the appearance of the first historical documents; however, with the appearance of the 'Prisoner Plaque' from Kish in the ED II period (circa 2750 or so) we have inarguable evidence that warfare was being conducted in Mesopotamia, and was probably well developed by the time this document was written down. **Disclaimer - this is not an academic paper, rather it is a 12 page class assignment which I thought may interest some readers at enenuru. I most likely would have gone into more detail in some areas but had to be brief at points in order to keep it within a 12 page (double space) format, as was the assignment requirement.
