Recently, I was given a gift by a friend who purchased the gifted item from the Palmyra Exchange: www.liveauctioneers.com/item/57748300_ancient-holy-land-terracotta-ashtar-idol-c2000-bc. I have no doubts about the integrity of the friend who purchased it and subsequently gave it to me. Questions about the origin of the item were raised however when I shared images of the item on Facebook in the Temple of Sumer group. This is the information about the item: “Ancient Holy Land Terra-cotta Ashtar Idol c.2000 BC. Size of the busy 2 inches high. Early Ancient Holy Land Idol facing holding her breast. Condition: perfect, mounted. Provenance: from the estate of Robert Thompson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Bob represented the extensive dedication, scholarship, and attention to detail that the antiquity collecting community requires. Bob started collecting in the 1960s and dedicated a substantial portion of his time to the acquisition, attribution, and conservation of his collection.” Attempts to find more information about the original collector (Robert Thompson or Bob Thompson) have been incredibly difficult. Any information found circles back to the Palmyra Heritage’s site. The only other resource I could find was that found on Barneby’s website: www.barnebys.com/blog/jewelry/diamond/exceptional-antiquities-signed-jewelry-and-dazzling-diamonds/13099/I am hoping that someone might perhaps have information about this individual.
