Hi everyone I hope this is the right place to ask: I would like to tattoo my daughter's name ASIA, as it can mean "sunrise" or "east in" Akkadian: aṣu or waṣu. Is this the right way to write it? Thanx a lot Adar

With the etymology of Asia being uncertain, would you prefer a phonetic rendition of how you pronounce her name, or would you still like the Akkadian verb aşû, which if I remember correctly has the more general meaning of "to leave, to go out".

So I've heard two different pronunciations of Asia, the first I would render with the signs a-si-a, and the second I would render with the signs e-shi-a.

Do you know if a-si-a looks as the attachment?

The script you are using is 1st millennium, which Im not too experienced with, but it looks nothing like it to me so Im guessing no. Here are the signs in 3rd millennium script though:

There are a few more ways to write ASIA | | AS | IA |
and there are 5 more signs that can be read as AS, and around 8 more signs that can be read as IA
