I have below pasted a standardized invitation which I hope will serve as template for efforts to "spread the word" about enenuru.net ; Do I intend to do so? Oh yes!
To bring the community ever larger and broader is itself fundamental, and in so far as participating members have grown here in the last year, so to is growth in expansion and in fresh challenges. To move forward, enenuru.net is in part intended to make this group more accessible and visible to the ANE community at large, and I will make it sooo visible. I would certainly appreciate anyone who might spread the below invitation to a relevant or semi-relevant community/webpage, and post the url below as I have done. Cheers.

Enenuru.net is an independent project with focuses on Sumerian and Mesopotamian magic, religion, and culture and on relevant academic apparatus. Admittedly, reading in these areas can at times be dense and tract-less, and here we aim to provide an explanatory material and systematized resource for the student, seeker, and for those who speak similar enthusiasm. Enenuru.net is currently in development, and as we work, we take the chance to broaden scope, accept suggestion or criticism, and invite contribution from interested parties. We hope you will give or take from our efforts as they progress in form and function, towards a true study aid for these rare subjects. Regards.
P.S> We know that as of now enenuru.net is just taking shape, and is in need of further content - we launch now so that those truly interest might see it grow and of those, the smallest number (yet most valuable) may possibly contribute. We inevitably grow in any event.

Ahh, good sentiments Naomi! ;] Thanks. Well, I'm the sort who tends grumble even while my enthusiasm is un-flinching. I'm very appreciative of the little active core of people at Enenuru, even as I never fail to appreciate how winding the path is to add even a single new active contributer.

I thought the Ishtar group was bad enough until I read this on Ninmah description: " Ninmah (also known as Ninharsag, Hathor, Great Mother)is the daughter of Anu (King of Nibiru the 10th planet in our solar system), sister and lover of Enki/Ea and Enlil/Yahweh. So its a mish mash of various religions whose gods have little in common w/ each other and Ninmah is in place of Gaia in Neopaganism.  Frankly, a Aztec god has no bussiness there and this is not a ANE group at all. Its a fluffy Neopagan one. |

Hey All: First to address your question above Sheshki - I am not sure if the cuneiform you posted above is a god. However I'm betting we will be able to produce an answer with the line of inquiry you are pursueing.. If anyone hasn't seen Sheshki's cuneiform noun efforts (he is finding the cuneiform signs for a) Royal Names b) Divine Names c) City Names) keep an eye out. This stuff is fantastic! It really brings the amateur closer to the domain of the experts, and it will go wonderfully with enenuru.net explorations of dynasties and rulers, and also presentation of the God-lists. So stay tuned. I am here leaving a brief note on a new section as well, which is a branch of the "Sumerian History" section at enenuru.net - that is b) the Sumerian King list. I have in this section perused much of the key material reviewed on the threads here on the board, and added some more from a few books I have out from the library. Some of the content will be familiar therefore, but presented in a different format, somewhat more refined and summed for the newcomer. (more or less.) Some secitons still under construction. Sheshki: I love these plaque and relief readings! These are things often referred to in Sumerological commentaries, yet are rarely pictured - and never is it really explained what signs say what. So your efforts very interesting to an enthusiast This week we are looking at the Ur-Nanshe's as you say, and as such we should maybe make Lagash the first dynasty to be detailed at enenuru.net? For today I have a brief note from Kramer 1963 pg. 52. Kramer says that around 2450 B.C: "A man named Ur-Nanshe established himself as king of Lagash and found a dynasty which was to endure for five generations. We do not know where Ur-Nanshe came from or how he rose to power - there is even a bare possibility that he was not originally a Sumerian but a Semite from the land known as Tidnum, to the west of Sumer. Be that as it may, he has left behind some fifty inscriptions on tablets, plaques, door sockets, bricks and nails, which record primarily the building of temples, digging of canals, and fashioning of divine statues. One of the sentences occurring repeatedly in these inscriptions.... One of Ur-Nanshe's sons, Akurgal, succeeded him on the throne of Lagash. Early in his reign he apparently ran into difficulties with the Ummaites, and his rule was of short duration. He was succeeded by his son Eannatum, whose military conquests made him the most powerful figure of his day, so much so that he dared assume, at least for a brief few years, the title King of Kish, which carried with it the claimed of supremacy over all Sumer." - Note here that Kramer does not mention about the father of Ur-Nanshe, there is stele which at least tells us the name of the person: Gunidu. Postgate speaks directly about this plaque you look at above, I will retrieve his comments tommorow at library. ;] |

Oh and Entemena (does anyone know why some people call him Enmetena??) got a son too, EnanatumII, King of Lagash. But i think he was more a kind of marionette king to the highpriest of lagash.

Under Entemena, nephew and second successor of Eannatum and only other militarily strong members of Ur-Nanshes dynastie, the high priests of Ningirsu appeared on inscriptions as coequals with the ensi. The second of these hightpriests,Enetarzi, allowed Entemena´s son(EnanatumII) only some four years of puppet rule before usurping the position of ensi and drawing down the courtain on ur-nanshes dynastie. |
