And the imdugud's action upon that strange chthonic creature is strange as well Probably some specific SM session between distant relatives?

Hey folks - Some interesting stuff showing up here - one hopes that evocative imagery can do something to address sagging public interest in this field. I thought I'd mention, Enkur, that I think the image of Enki you'd found a little ways back may unfortunately be a false identification: I have looked through a publication or two concerning the finds at Eridu and I have not yet seen this image. Particularly the head of this goat fish seems uncharacteristic of Early Mesopotamia. Also I suppose that the goat-fish itself is generally thought representative of Enki only after the mid-2nd millennium or so.. Professor Frayne believes he may have found a text that pushs Enki as goat-fish back earlier, however this is not solidly proven yet. In any case, I only mention this the more things we find to be inaccurate, the better chance of eventually recognizing the truly accurate elusive insights into early Sumerian religion. Cheers

I said: "as far as I know this was supposed to be the most ancient image of Enki" being prudent without having the specialized education and the access to the necessary information As for my first feeling, it was as if the archetypal image of the bald old sage wasn't of very ancient origin On the other hand, I'm very interested to know where in fact this concrete image came from? From the time Enki was called Oannes? Yet my memory dimly reminds me about some earlier images in the same style - I don't mean the man-fish but the style itself. Also, I would like to note here that on the present sorcery point of view the later attributes of the deities do not make them less authentic when summoned. The later attribute of a deity may serve as a bridge between the practioner and the deeper (the older) layer of the collective memory which could be too obscure if contacted first. Yet at last, if the divine possession really takes place, there is no more linear time.

Enkur: Very bold and unapologetic piece for sure Whoever you have playing Inana seems a reasonable fit and it looks like a scene where captured prisoners are brought before the goddess to me. Those Sumerian soldiers behind Inana look familiar from somewhere was there a board game that had these graphics? Overall I like it, it's bizarre in it portrayal of mythic imagination in more dimension and color than we are used to.

Thank you for the attention, Bill. I will paste the link to the site with the Sumerian soldiers in the Web Findings thread. It's worth having a look through it. I find its history page as decent.

Very nice picture. Do you have the transliteration for the text at hand? What was the motivation behind the picture?

Thanks for the attention. "The cursing of Agade", lines 1 and 57. Motivation: the overpopulation, the 100 anniversary of the WW1, some future anxiety etc.

The Underworld Marriage. For the inscription I have used as a template the lines 21, 22, 29 and 30 from the text A balbale to Ninazu (Ninazu A), of which I’ve made a paraphrase. Bill said it was OK as a grammar. I could always correct it if necessary. The gods know I'm sincere

Enkur - this cave is indeed a very evocative one ;] and does fit the imagery of the netherworld quite well. So if I understand correctly, you have written the cuneiform inscription out on clay and then merged the image with the wall of the cave?

Yes. As for the cave, its real size is even bigger than as seen in my artwork. The eyed vault is about 50 m in hight. I'm attaching here the actual photo I've used with two human figures for comparison. It's a ki gal, a great place indeed. Attachments:

Wow! Well that's just fantastic I haven't seen anything that risque since Naomi went nuts and left the board. In any case, I am pretty sure I recognize elements of "Inana's descent to the Netherworld" going on there, no doubt. Why is it that when I tell women about my nerdy obsession with Sumer, they aren't in any way inspired to take off their clothes and yet you have this kind of situation going on? 0_0 Anyway fun stuff - I don't think youtube will keep the link active very long however.

Thanks Bill I have uploaded it as "unlisted", not as "public", so it could be seen only by whom I've sent this link - in this case by each member of this board Well as a theatrical director I'm supposed that I should be able to attract certain actresses and actors in staging certain stories. On the other hand I wouldn't be able to do it, if me myself haven't been inspired. (d inanna za3-mi2 d eresh-ki-gal-la za3-mi2) Moreover I prefer to work mostly on the underground scene where both the performers and the audience are of the more eccentric kind of people. Up to now a performance like this hasn't been seen in a country like mine. As for you, if Enki is your deity, his proficiency being both scientific and charming, you should be appealing to the women to do so in your own unique way

quite a fantastic collection... it reminds me of a song i wrote about ereshkigal and nergal, i actually butchered the story, it was before i decided to study ancient cultures of mesopotamia... ive regretted that song and didnt sing it since then... but i still feel the inmense efect it had on my artistic composition.
(it was kind of a thrash metal song, similar to megadeth style... btw does anybody else see inanna in the song shewolf by megadeth? i kind of feel it all over the description, even if mustaine says its about a bad girlfriend of a friend..." desier of flesh... the lioness will enslave me... priestess roars get down on your knees... " it also has some "werewolf theme" behind, but i kind of see the inanna theme on top of everything else in that song...)

That video was intense. More of a performance than a rite, but shows the direction a dramatic ritual could take.
