well, right now i only can read some god names or such. what im doin is a bit like learning russian letters without the language behind it. you know one of the reasons i started to learn those signs was that i wanted to see if i am able to learn it. i mean i am a laymen, and i didnt know much about the cuneiform thing at that time.and sometimes it was really confusing. but hey , i made it throught the learning book with its 110 signs( i didnt had the original book, i only had a scanned pdf copie of a version from 1979 which looked like made for students) and after that i bought the complete signlist by r.borger and i continued learning signs. right now im at around 300 signs but i think its time to focus on the language. so i have to get my hands on some books about assyrian language i guess.and with the help of the board it will be much easyer i think;) i also decided to check on sumerian cuneiform so i started to search for the sumerian equivalents for the neo assyrian signs in d.c.snells book. im not sure if this makes sense but its a beginnig. btw, i found out that practicing those cuneiform signs is very meditative to me. oh and , another reason for learning those signs was that i was thinking about a cuneiform tattoo. i wanted to be sure what is written into my skin. if everything goes well in the next weeks i will have my tattoo. right now i am looking for a text passage that fits. ETCSL is very helpful here.

Hello there! I'm a Norwegian student (have been at Uni. in Durham and lately in Oslo), recently finished my MA in History of Religions where I wrote about the Hymn of Gudea (particularly the temple's place in the cosmos & central metaphors related to the axis mundi and cosmic mountain-ideas). I've studied Sumerian, Akkadian, Hebrew and Latin (tho am not very good at either!!), and am genereally sympathetic toward most kinds of Mesopotamia-related nerdery.

Hey Nidaba - these are some wonderfuls study objective's, you're lucky to have some learning in Sumerian and Akkadian. As for the temple as divine mediator, I've been meaning to explore this further for some time. Sounds like I better review my notes *g*

Thanks for the welcome! Lol, no need to review notes here - I'm quite a dilettante really, more of a Jack of all trades-sort. I'm interested in loads of things & don't master any of them. So there. But it'd be quite interesting to discuss the temple as mediator, yes - I'll try to prepare something for a thread (if noone has already started one)! ps, is it "nerdery" or "geekery" or both? Enlighten a poor Viking

Hey Nidaba / Sinenslavedangel. Unless I'm wrong Geekery is a more sophisticated blend of Suspenders and thick black framed glasses. But I'd say both!

Hey everyone You may call me Angel. I'm a 19 year old girl from who loves anything dark & cryptic. Welcome to the board Angel. Liking dark and cryptic things and being opinionated are good things to mention - have to say I can relate! 0_0 If your really unorthodox you might enjoy my postings on Babel und Bibel and Delitisch - well, someone's got to.

Whazzis??
Archtive?
The most beautiful flowers can grow in a graveyard, at least to my eye. Picking them would seem to be less of a thrilling activity but may be enjoyed on a more subtle level.
Not that my search for the few ever really slows.

Flowers are nice, but it's weeds I am trying to cultivate. Hearty determined weeds that are willing to take root in tough soil. Weeds that might just turn out to bear fruit.
And speaking of boards you own, I am making a Shameless Self Promotion section.

I've been an avid reader of Sumerian mythology probably since childhood. I've been an eclectic pagan for the last 12 yrs, and typically identify Tiamat/Nammu as my matron. Started putting together a notebook of articles that specialists had written on Sumerian subjects, and when I can pick up Sitchin and Kramer. I know it is questionable as to whether Sitchin is historical, but he definitely provides a unique perception of Sumerian mythology. Absolutely fell in love with the work of HP Lovecraft about the same time as I was first reading Sumerian mythology. I just feel such a calling to the cradle of civilization that I can't even begin to explain.
I practice an eclectic form of Paganism, but have found that sometimes the best place to find information is among the academic crowds.

Welcome to the board! Hope this board brings you a educational experience. And hopefully you can spell better than moi. Flowers are nice, but it's weeds I am trying to cultivate. Hearty determined weeds that are willing to take root in tough soil. Weeds that might just turn out to bear fruit. Is this a pun on my divine, sacred name?

Hello! It's me, Matthias. Now I'm back from my vacations and so I have time for enenuru, 2 months are too long as freetime... I'm studying ANE in Leipzig, the languages are for me most interesting, so I hope to learn a lot of them at the university . But also about things like necromancy I really like to read about. I think thats enough for this time! Best greetings

Hey Matthias, good to see you. Mind if I ask what inspired your new name "Sukkal-Mah" I don't have my lexicon handy, but I know the word Sukkal well enough. That is a term for an intermediary between a person of some authority. Minister of good words. It roughly is equivalent to the Chamberlain of medieval Europe if I recall my medieval European culture.

Tavthe, I thought I would make note of your comment about Sitchin. There isn't really a debate as to how historical his work is. He is universally noted as a bad historian in the actual community. Think of him as more a form of entertainment than anything else.

The Sukkal-Mah was the Supreme ruler of the entire empire, the one who the Sukkals all answered to (A similar relationship to the Ensi and Lugal in post-sargonic Sumer). The title came from Mesopotamia originally but was later adopted by the Elamites.

Hi, Michele here. I'm aquarian, so I do tend to irritate although my intent is never to harm. The Sumerian pantheon captured my heart about 14 years ago. I've been a practicing Pagan for about 22 years. Wow -has it been that long? I guess it has. ;D I'm more of a magician than a priest, but since I seem to be the only Sumerian out here in the deserts of southern Arizona (surrounded by Celts! ...In the desert!!) I can do priest when I need to. My personal website is www.babylon-rising.com. I do take my studies seriously. I'm not a recon; I live in the 21st century. I also do not believe in demons; I do believe in taking responsibility for one's own actions. And since I do have past-life memories, I also tend to stray from the ancient belief of life ending with the Underworld. Later!

Hey I know you from paganspace. Welcome deary. Btw I love your site and you have some of the most excellent academic sources I have ever seen. You may call yourself a "pagan", but your the only one on that site I saw as academic as myself and who was realistic and knowledgable. (And isn't going to bash me for reading books and learning)

Welcome Ninanki, I hope you will find a place at enenuru to employ your readings and at the same time might take something away. We're just getting started after all.

Hello, my name is Phae, and I joined simply because while struggling to translate a comment that was left for me on my myspace profile, I happened upon this forum, and it struck me as something I should look into further. Thus, I will be lurking in the background, unless that is frowned upon.

Hi!
Allow me to introduce myself: I'm a french student, I study Assyriology in Nancy and Strasbourg, and I learn Akkadian. I start my Master 2/DEA in September.
My English is pretty bad, please be forbearing... It's easier for me to read than to write.
I study the "rites de passage" and life crisis among the akkadian and sumerian documentation...
A bientôt!

Hey Nintur:
Sounds like a wonderful study program and I'm very interested to know how Assyriology studies in France are ;] Also I shall have to ask you about these "rites de passage" as I am yet unfamiliar with this in the Mesopotamian context. Welcome.
Kahan:
Thanks for saying so. If you are newer to Sumerian studies, certainly let us know your ambitions or mail me directly and we can help get you started.

Hello! I am Skot and I have so many handles, Anunnaki will work fine for here. Since my first read through Sumerian Mythology by SN Kramer, I've been in love with the Sumerian myths. I was led here by Phae and am glad to make your acquaintances, one and all.
